How boredom can help you make you change your career path

Is your career boring? Almost everyone one of us has answered yes, at some stage of their career.  They’re justified though, boredom can actually help you change your career path.

You wake up at the same time, undertake the same commute, whilst working with the same people on the same thing and counting down the days until the weekend. It’s routine and routine is boring because it’s the same.

Try to look at routine in a different way,  meaning, you know exactly what you will be doing and exactly when you will be doing it.  You have little to think about, there is no stress, you aren’t overwhelmed and the best thing it can genuinely spark creativity. Knowing what tomorrow is like will build confidence; you know what to expect.

If every day was entirely different, you would need to think about every little detail of every little thing you did, and that would be overwhelming. Structure is something that is important in every one’s life in some form it can have its benefits.

As well as welcoming structure, one must eradicate that villain, fear from the mind. You may be afraid of appearing stupid, failing or even succeeding. Make an agreement with yourself to take control and work through fear whenever it plagues you. This will allow for new ideas, new promotions and more creativity in your job and help you to ultimately decide on the career for you, with your new found enthusiasm. You will start to think outside the box.

If your routine is feeling stale, change it. Accent the areas you like in your routine.  Add new things to your routine to make it more enjoyable. Try taking a different route to work, trying a new restaurant for lunch every other day, exercising for an hour after work or taking a new class to further your knowledge in your field. You need to be easy on yourself,  it is hard to break old habits and form new ones. If you find yourself faltering, simply regroup and continue your new routine where you left off.

I still hate my job I hear you say. This may well be true, however, persevering with this new mindset will help you to get through any challenges you face until you decide the best career for you and finally end up doing what you have always wanted to do.

Boredom can ultimately help you change your career path in more ways than one.
